Initiative aims to enhance maritime safety, safe navigation & operational efficiency along local coastlines during Eid holidays

The Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA) announced that it has completed preparations in connection with the launch of the Maritime Safety campaign in preparation for Eid Al-Fitr. The initiative forms part of a series of successful campaigns by DMCA, aimed at enhancing maritime safety, safe navigation and operational efficiency along the local coastlines to build a secure, renewable and sustainable maritime sector in Dubai.

The campaign highlights DMCA’s commitment to ensuring highest levels of safety for beach goers and visitors to marine leisure destinations and related activities, especially during Eid holidays when there is a spike in demand. The initiative aligns with the Authority’s efforts to ensure the management of maritime operations according to the highest standards of occupational safety, best environmental practices and local and international regulations, in order to strengthen Dubai’s leading position in the global maritime landscape.

The Maritime Safety campaign is strategically important as it covers all aspects related to maritime safety, noise, and emergency response, required to ensure the readiness of vessels to sail within Dubai waters. The scope of the campaign includes monitoring the extent to which the means of the vessels are maintained at specified speed and load, while ensuring that all communication equipment and safety tools are available onboard. It also emphasizes the preservation of the environment by ensuring that the garbage or oil is not thrown into the water, besides encouraging vessels to reduce noise, monitor the weather before sailing, and to keep emergency numbers handy. They are also advised not to enter the areas allocated for swimming, other restricted areas and avoid blocking shipping channels.

Abdullah Bin Touk, Director of Marine Inspection, DMCA, said: “This Eid Al Fitr campaign is a major boost to the tireless efforts led by DMCA to promote secure coastal navigation, save lives, protect properties and support environmental security, which is one of the strategic priorities and main objectives of Dubai Plan 2021. The significance of the latest campaign can be attributed to its pivotal role in establishing the pillars of maritime safety, as the consolidation of the competitiveness, attractiveness and comprehensiveness of the Dubai’s maritime cluster, which is one of the best in the world, remains a priority.”

Touk added: “The launch of the maritime safety campaign comes at a very opportune time as we are celebrating Eid Al Fitr. We witness a remarkable increase in the number of beach goers and marine crafts of all types, especially leisure boats, yachts and jet skis. Thus, we are committed to adopting all measures needed to ensure safe sailing and maritime safety, to establish Dubai’s leading reputation as one of the world’s best maritime hubs. We look forward to continue launching our awareness campaigns on a regular basis to raise awareness, fulfilling our educational and supervisory responsibilities, to ensure the highest levels of maritime safety. We believe that it is the cornerstone to building an integrated, renewable and sustainable maritime sector that can drive the economic growth and diversification in Dubai and the UAE.”

DMCA continues its efforts to launch maritime awareness and educational campaigns in order to spread the culture of maritime safety and promote industry best practices, to reinforce Dubai’s pioneering position in the global maritime landscape. The Authority is also keen to strengthen cooperation and coordination frameworks with various stakeholders in the local maritime sector and to adopt best practices that support the ambitious vision, to create a maritime environment conducive for business, investment and leisure.
